Intersex Aotearoa is the operational arm of Intersex Trust Aotearoa NZ (ITANZ), a non-profit and registered charitable trust. As the leading body for intersex advocacy in Aotearoa, IA/ITANZ provides support and referrals for people with intersex variations, operating on the principle of "by intersex people, for intersex people."

IA is the only intersex-led national organisation in Aotearoa. The organisation works to create systemic change within education, healthcare, and social environments to ensure Aotearoa is a safe and affirming place for intersex individuals to thrive. Building on the foundational work of Mani Bruce Mitchell, IA continues to advocate for the bodily autonomy and sovereignty of ira tangata, while centring Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their strategic goals.

IA collaborates with peer organisations, the government, legislative bodies, academic researchers, and healthcare professionals to drive positive change. They are committed to working alongside the LGBTQIA+ community and all advocates dedicated to improving the lives of intersex people.
